My Oranda Steve got a couple of white pimples on his wen. They seem to be a bit smaller today. Please have a look at the pics below. Thanks.

The white patch behind the eye looks a little strange - anything to worry about?

Thanks!

i suspect steve has some wen growth happening that is clearing up and the patch behind the eye looks like normal discolouration to me. i don't see anything funky with the texture of it nor does it look puffy or even vaguely infected.

that being said though, i could be wrong and it is best that you continue to keep an eye on it over the next few days. does he reside with the pearlscale that has the internal infection happening?

Thanks for the reply - yes he does live with the pearlscale - I will be keeping a sharp eye out on all the tankmates for signs of disease.

the fish in the second picture and the fish in the others (other than the 2nd pic) are two different fish.. correct?

no - only one redcap oranda in the tank

Besides some scales missing, I really now dont see anything wrong. I see a color change happening. :thumb:

yeah - he's always been missing that scale on the right side.

strange, pic two shows a dorsal that is slightly damaged, yet it looks fine in the other pics. in anycase, if like the other pics normally, i don't see any reason for concern. wen in all pics looks fine to me.

I think it was just flopped over a little when I got the shot, but in the second picture, you can see the little white pimple about halfway back on the wen.

yep, that just looks like normal wen growth. with wens, the sign for trouble is when there is a circle of red around the white pimple. normal wen growth will show a hazey white film over the majority of the wen and a few pimple like spots where they look kinda like protruding dots. they will last a few days and then they will disappear. the white haze may take longer to disappear. if there is no swelling, no redness (and you will know if it's red, it looks a different colour to the natural colouring) and no suspicious behaviour from the fish, all is well :)
