Ranchu floating up while sleeping. opinions please!

Recommended Posts

My ranchu betty only floats to the surface when she sleeps, apart from this she swims fine and has perfect control its only when shes still she floats,

i feed her peas and sinking hikari pellets soaked in kio clay, but nothing seems to stop her floating her other tank buddies another ranchu and pearlscale are fine.

So is this a problem? or do i just leave her to how she is and let her sleep at the surface?

opinions please!

Thank you :)

How are you soaking the food in the koi clay? It may be that the pellets just don't work for this fish as well, but it could also be particles of non-dissolved koi clay being an irritant.

Try putting a fine layer of sand on the bottom. They eat it and it acts like fiber to keep their gut moving along.

I keep all my ranchu over sand.

Hey Amy thanks for your message.

what i do with the koi clay is put a little tiny bit of it in with the pellets and peas when i soak the food for acouple of mins.

but if you think it may be an irriant i will leave it out of the food soaking and just had a little when i do my water change.

(p.s i love the white ranchu in your pic, i had a white ranchu with one blue eye and one yellow, she was lovely :)

Hi David i would like to use sand in my tank as i did once have gravel but now its bare bottom, this grate gravel cleaner i use cant be used with sand, and i find the gravel cleaner so helpful for removing thier waste and not the water.

im going to start making my own gel food now, i fed them spinach for the first time yesterday they seemed to love it especially my pearlscale, though i have a question as your an experienced ranchu keeper, do you find that ranchu's do alot more chewing and are slow at eating?

Thanks.

Ben
