When did this become a jungle?

Recommended Posts

This is one of the reasons why my community tank doesn't fill in. I keep adding to the betta tank :rofl

The first photo is from 12/26/2011, when I set up the tank. The second one from today. It's such a jungle, but I like it, and apparently the fish and frogs prefer it that way too. :)

I am guessing that because it's a betta tank, where there is very little waste, the poop cleaning is minimal, and whatever there is goes to feed the plants... :)

It's really just maintaining the walls and the filter and WCs...I think.

Yep, so far at least. I drain it with airline tubing, and with that I can even pick up the very rare pieces of larger debris. The filter collects most of the waste. The glass and plants are being cleaned by the snail and the two otos, and every bit of food that even makes it to the bottom will be found by the betta, the snail, or the ADFs. :)

Oh God, you guys! The otos have cleaned off 75% of the brown algae visible in picture # 2 within less than 15 hours :rofl

That's great, Fang. I'm trying to grow a jungle in my betta tank as well. Things don't grow very fast in there, though.

It's quite the community you have there.

Thanks, Sarah!

It's a 5 gallon. The plants look all different again already. Removed most of the anacharis because the floating pennywort is really taking over, and looking beautiful!

You have that many fish in a 5 gallon? Seeing yours makes me think maybe I could get a pair of otos for my 6 gallon to clear the algae for me, I always thought they needed to be in groups of about 5 though and that would be too many for my tank.

Very nice Fang :)

Everything I read says otos should be in groups of 5-7 but mine all like to hang out on their own.
