Regular Member Erica Stolte Posted December 4, 2011 Regular Member Share Posted December 4, 2011 I have an old heater that seems to have gotten some corrosion on the plug. I have no idea what from, been trying to clean it off. It's from one my male betta tanks that also houses two corydoras. Anyone know how to clean plugs?. Is it maybe not safe to use anymore?.

Regular Member blackteles Posted December 4, 2011 Regular Member Share Posted December 4, 2011 Hey AU....I've done this before numerous times. Just use fine grade sandpaper and that will remove the corrosion from the plug. Worked fine for me.
Regular Member blackteles Posted December 4, 2011 Regular Member Share Posted December 4, 2011 AU...just to follow up. I think Helen's talking about any rust that may enter the tank which obviously is dangerous. My response is aimed at the electrical end of it.
Regular Member number20121 Posted December 4, 2011 Regular Member Share Posted December 4, 2011 Helen, the corrosion is on the plug, not on the part that is in contact with the water, so I think he's fine if he follows Dennis' advice

Regular Member Erica Stolte Posted December 4, 2011 Author Regular Member Share Posted December 4, 2011 I should mention, I un-plugged it due to safety concerns as soon as I noticed. So these three fish are currently kept at room temps.
