Ich Question

Recommended Posts

How long can Ich live without a host? I recently had ich in one of my tanks and removed all my plants. That was about 3 or 4 weeks ago (I can't remember), would it be safe to put the plants back into my tank?

Your plants aren't a host, your fish are. Have the fish been clear of ich for some time?

I lost all the fish. I removed the plants but I'm worried that maybe some of the ich prasites were carried along with the plants.

Your tank will be fine after 4 weeks. What you have to worry about is the cyst stage of the life cycle. Ich itself cannot live without a host but the cysts can. But after 4 weeks, those have come and gone. That is why we suggest 4 weeks of treatment.

You could always disinfect the plants in a mild bleach solution and then put them in a bath of dechlorinated water if you still have concerns.
