New Update On My Tank

I wanted to get away from the other thread, with all of the negativity due to the deaths. Here is a video I shot this morning of my two fish and I have added some plants that will go in the 90 gallon

I did speak to Thai{now a member here-lookiegoldie} to let him know that the fish became sick, just so he knows. I also corresponded with Steve at Raingarden,I told him how discouraged I was becoming. He wanted to send me a free fish, with free shipping. He wanted to refund the money I had just sent for the Oranda he sold me at half price. I told him I did not have a problem with our transaction, and it wouldn't be fair to lay the blame all on him. I also said if he wanted to throw a free one in to keep mine company on the trip, I would not object. He said that is what he will do.

here is the video

Very pretty babies! :)

That was sweet of Steve also. We all know things can happen that are out of our control but we handle it the best we can, sounds like things are looking up I hope.

My broadtail ryukin is in with 3 orandas and a butterfly, and so far they are all playing nice. I do have to make sure Byakuya the butterfly gets her share of food, but that hasn't been a problem at all :)

Man..did I jinx myself or what? So today as you saw, they were swimming side by side and all was well. I work from home, and the tank is in the dining area...so passing by it all day, checking, etc...

It seemed like as the day wore on, the Ryukin did appear to be bullying the panda. A few times the panda was backed up in the corner or in the plants, trying to get away from him. He would do like a swipe by, then turn and give him a 'kick' with his tail. I quickly grabbed a piece of ceiling diffuser{eggcrate} and made a separator. Now I am not sure what to do.

Thanks for your kind words. They did look cute together, at least for awhile....

Darn, that stinks! I have had the same experience with Orandas, every one that I buy just so happens to be a big bully! Maybe when your new fish from Raingarden are put in the tank after QT, they will distract the Ryukin and he won't bully the Panda anymore. If there was no fin nipping, or extreme bullying I probably would have just let them be and kept an eye on things. They may be establishing a pecking order in the tank.

I'm not really up on the whole story, but do you know the genders? It could just be breeding behavior. My ryukin is my biggest chaser and my little ranchu girl is just not agile enough to get away from him, so I sometimes have to catch her in a colander to give her a break. She's had eggs three times in the last month, but they all get along fine the rest of the time.

Thanks for the replies. I am not sure of the gender. Don't they have to be full adults for that? I have two fish coming a week from today. Hopefully that might settle him down. But we have to wait for quarantine to be over.Tomadachii{Ryukin} seemed very happy when Matsui{Oranda} was in the tank. I just do not want him to hurt Taiji{Panda}. I took out the separator a few minute ago, as I am preparing for a water change. I will observe again today and see how they do.

They look great! I love the plants too.

I have 2 questions for you, one what is the plant on the left , looks like it has large leafs and a pink flower? Two, what type of pots do you have them in?

LOL..that particular plant is called silkis artificialis. :D

The pots are from devin on The planted tank forum- his user name is Hydrophyte, he sells Riparium supplies in the power sellers forum. I got the large 4 pack. It comes with everything you need, substrate, slow release root tabs, great instructions!

I would have guessed my little ranchu was too little. She's not quite 3 inches. I got her from Dandy Orandas and Ken told me she's just under a year old. But man, she's a little egg factory. So who knows. She's the only girl in my tank and everything will be fine for a few days, then they all go nuts for two or three days. They mostly try to pin her up against things and kinda squish her. Do you just see bumping and chasing, or is there nipping too? I hope they settle down for you soon.
