I picked up my first betta last night at the lfs. :newfish

It was so hard to pick from the little tiny jars. I picked one that showed some signs of activity in his jar...hopefully after he settles in he'll be healthy and happy. I took a few pictures of him this morning, but didn't want to stress him with the flash.

He's a lovely blue color and seems so serene compared to Fluffy :nana who is always doing something. I thought of naming him something oceanic like oceano or azul. Does anyone know the Thai for ocean or serenity?

Anyway, I'm excited and looking forward to getting to know this new fishie. He's in the 3 gallon tank (Penguin? or Emperor?) that I originally got for Fluffy (pre-Koko's) and I think it's a good home for him. The filter is very gentle, and he doesn't seem to be buffeted around by it.

Yes, definitely need a new mantra! What will it be? "As many fish as you have room for, plus one more" That's what my actions have been so far.

For names:

I'm looking at Bien Dinh - vietnamese meaning Ocean calm.

or Phailin - Thai meaning sapphire - altho he's not really sapphire blue.

I haven't found a big list of Thai names online yet.

iLm sitting in my dark kitchen watching Bien Dinh. If I turn the light on he hides under the bridge. He's so calm and regal. Every once in a while he swims over to the front of the tank and checks me out.

it's so funny how he perches in the plants. So different from Fluffy who is always busy doing something.

I put food in the water this evening but I don't know if he ate it. Will try again tomorrow.

This morning he ate the pellets and blew a few bubbles! I'm so glad heLs settling in well. I will post some more pics this weekend.

I'm so grateful for all the info and good advice from you all.
