Regular Member Captain Findus Goldfish Posted January 13, 2011 Regular Member Share Posted January 13, 2011 I had to detach my Anubias from the rocks because the fishline was ruining their roots So now we have a wild jungle theme going until I can find a way to fix them. The fish seem to love it tho as they are always cruising in between the leaves. (well, except when the veggie clip comes into play!) :heart
Regular Member Hidr Posted January 13, 2011 Regular Member Share Posted January 13, 2011 Uncolored thread should do it and it well rot off in time but by then then roots should be attached to the rock.
Regular Member mikroll Posted January 13, 2011 Regular Member Share Posted January 13, 2011 mine are rooted into cracked amphora and some are in terracotta pots decorative. works very well.
Regular Member amynmitchell Posted January 13, 2011 Regular Member Share Posted January 13, 2011 I usually use thread, but you have to tie it loosely. I am trying rubberbands now.
Regular Member shellbell4ever Posted January 14, 2011 Regular Member Share Posted January 14, 2011 I am using rubber bands right now but change them monthly, as they become weak... at least until they attach themselves to the rocks (how long does that take anyway?)
Regular Member amynmitchell Posted January 14, 2011 Regular Member Share Posted January 14, 2011 They should be attached by now, though I find anubias don't attach as easily as java ferns. Don't know why that is...annoying though.
Regular Member Captain Findus Goldfish Posted January 14, 2011 Author Regular Member Share Posted January 14, 2011 Yup. My Java Ferns are attached. THey also don't get ruined roots when you attach them because their roots are so thin and 'flexible'. They sort of 'blend' into the rocks. THe ones in my anubias are hard as stone and very long - hanging straight down! So I might try and attach the body of the plant to my intake and outtake of the Fluval. Hmmmm...
Regular Member Quasi Posted January 14, 2011 Regular Member Share Posted January 14, 2011 You're sure the roots die of because of the thread? My biggest problem was to stop my fish from nibbling on the small roots. That is why my Anibias is in a shallow bowl with gravel. When the roots were free Godzilla was snacking on them.
Regular Member Captain Findus Goldfish Posted January 14, 2011 Author Regular Member Share Posted January 14, 2011 Yup they started rotting where I had tied them THey are way too big for the fish to eat. But the fish do 'clean' around them.

The roots of an Anubias are indeed quite sensitive
Regular Member number20121 Posted January 14, 2011 Regular Member Share Posted January 14, 2011 I kind of like that though. The whole jungle look is neat!
Regular Member johann_pond Posted January 14, 2011 Regular Member Share Posted January 14, 2011 I had mine tied with fishing line, you just need to make it sort of loose, the roots will eventually take care of the rest.
Regular Member Lola_Granola Posted January 14, 2011 Regular Member Share Posted January 14, 2011 I think it's looks neat! I've just started experimenting with the anubia so I don't really have advice. I just used invisible thread to attach mine. It is a lot thinner than the fishing line I had, so we'll see how it goes!
