Regular Member number20121 Posted December 17, 2010 Regular Member Share Posted December 17, 2010 I know rule of thumb is the size of the eyeball in food. Are we talking about volume or surface? How often? (I just feed the goldfish whatever they eat in half a minute, two to three times daily. They are like swimming vacuum cleaners, I think they'd eat half the pack of food within 3 minutes if I'd let them... so I can't really relate to how much I feed THEM) I suppose bettas are just as constantly hungry looking as goldfish, at least my mom in law's fish is. I wonder if she is feeding him too much, then again he is not fat at all. Looks very slim. He just has improved very much, his fins grew and healed and the color came back. She has the Aqueon betta pellets. Those pellets are TINY. Maybe 30% or 50% the size of Saki Hikari. I think she feeds him two to three times daily about 4 of those. To me it sounds alright, but I wonder if he needs more or less than that, and I got no experience with bettas.
Regular Member Captain Findus Goldfish Posted December 17, 2010 Regular Member Share Posted December 17, 2010 I feed 2 betta balls daily to my guys. I think you might be feeding too much. The Hikari Betta Pellets are TINY - like a pin needle size.
Regular Member number20121 Posted December 17, 2010 Author Regular Member Share Posted December 17, 2010 Yeah, that's about the same size as the Aqueon pellets. Like I said, they are MAYBE 1 millimeter in diameter. I gotta tell her to feed him less then. This is gonna be difficult, we could never get her to stop feeding her dog people food. Now the dog got a heart disease and she STILL shares pizza and cheese sandwiches with the dog....
Regular Member Captain Findus Goldfish Posted December 17, 2010 Regular Member Share Posted December 17, 2010 yea cause in total she feeds 8-12 pellets? that is way too much. Edith recommended that I feed 2 pellets daily and it works really well for my guys. They always have good poops and are never constipated or anything. I do think that bettas are always suppose to look 'thin' unlike goldies who need a bit of belly
