Regular Member bberyy91 Posted December 14, 2010 Regular Member Share Posted December 14, 2010 my double tailed fish is having issues with floating to the top. he will swim to the bottom, and if he doesn't do anything, he floats the the top. peas have been working, and i have tried floating veggie pellets, which don't seem to be working. any ideas as to what it is/what i can do? do i really have to give him peas every day??
Regular Member Chrissy_Bee Posted December 14, 2010 Regular Member Share Posted December 14, 2010 Swim bladder issues are often caused by other, underlying problems. I'm moving this thread to the disease and diagnosis section. If you could answer all of the questions in the box up top, that would be great
Regular Member flutterbudget Posted December 14, 2010 Regular Member Share Posted December 14, 2010 I think any floating food is likely to make it worse. But I'm sure someone will be able to tell you more once you post the info from the questions at that top.
Regular Member Cynders Posted December 14, 2010 Regular Member Share Posted December 14, 2010 Here ya go! [*]Test Results for the Following: [*]Ammonia Level? [*]Nitrite Level? [*]Nitrate level? [*]Ph Level, Tank (If possible, KH, GH and chloramines)? [*]Ph Level, Tap (If possible, KH, GH and chloramines)? [*]Brand of test-kit used and whether strips or drops? [*]Water temperature? [*]Tank size (how many gals.) and how long has it been running? [*]What is the name and size of the filter(s)? [*]How often do you change the water and how much? [*]How many fish in the tank and their size? [*]What kind of water additives or conditioners? [*]What do you feed your fish and how often? [*]Any new fish added to the tank? [*]Any medications added to the tank? [*]Any unusual findings on the fish such as "grains of salt," bloody streaks, frayed fins or fungus? [*]Any unusual behavior like staying at the bottom, not eating, etc.? I agree, floating pellets are no good. They make fancy goldfish prone to floating, but this could only be one of many factors. Can you list everything you're feeding and the brand as well as answer all of these for us? Thanks
