58G Tank

How many goldfish could be kept in a 58G tank(safely)? Right now I have a Rena Canister Filter.

Well 4 is suggested for a 55, so I would assume 4. 5 if you are diligent with tank maintenance.

4 or 5 fancy goldies, if you are on top of those water changes.

2 common/single tail goldies, though they are better suited to ponds.

Is your filtration system going to be turning out 10X the original volume of the water per hour?

How much time do you have to devote to maintenance?

I'd only suggest full stocking if you have the adequate filtration and are willing to devote weekly water changes. Otherwise I'd suggest understocking to the likes of 2 or 3.

I use a rena xp3 on my 55 and normally keep 4 goldfish in it. Right now I have five but just till spring.

I would prefer to only have 3 fancy cause the tank only hold 42 gallon of water.

So I suggest only three fancy goldfish gives you wiggle room if you can't do a weekly water change and for those goldfish that get bigger then the average.

I have a Renaxp4. I currently have a RedShoulder Severum. I was hoping to find a mate for him but not having much luck. BTW is there any online places to get goldfish.

If you are looking for show quality goldfish: http://www.goldfishconnection.com has auctions on very beautiful fish. The next auction starts on Sunday!

The fish there are often very expensive though.

http://www.raingarden.us/goldfish.htm also carries a wide variety of beautiful fish. Not as high show quality as GFC, but also a lot cheaper.

I keep my tank under stocked. I find it easier on the fish and me.
