Best thing is for you to go do some research. But with a guppy already in there you really should just get a couple more guppies. Tank that tiny can't house very much.

All I keep in my 6 gallon is one male betta.

:exactly a five gallon is too small for schooling fish they need room to swim around. It would be great for a betta or a few guppies and maybe some amano or cherry shrimp. :)

Just because others have said it works doesn't mean the fish are in the best condition. :) You want your fish to have the most space possible. You wouldn't want to be stuck in a teensy 5 gallon tank with your school would you?

Neon tetras need a group of 8-12 to really school nicely together. A 5 gallon tank isn't enough room to properly display a group of small schooling fish of this size. Try to go up to at least a 10-2- gallon tank and then you'll see some nice schooling. ;)
