Regular Member us4298 Posted November 7, 2010 Regular Member Share Posted November 7, 2010 I am trying to cycle my tank but since I do not have any pure ammonia avaiable, I am going to need to buy some hardy fish. Can anyone suggest some schooling fish? What about Fancy tail Guppies? Are they hardy?

You make it daily.

Can anyone suggest some schooling fish? What about Fancy tail Guppies? Are they hardy? I've used Danios to cycle my tropical tanks. Zebras are very hardy and can withstand pretty much anything as long as you continuously monitor your parameters. They're a great little fish too..one of my favorites.
Regular Member us4298 Posted November 7, 2010 Author Regular Member Share Posted November 7, 2010 I was actually considering having some Zebra Danios but I had to think about my tank size which is a 5 Gallon and it really wouldnt suit them well, considering their full adult size.
Regular Member Cynders Posted November 7, 2010 Regular Member Share Posted November 7, 2010 Maybe get some ghost shrimp or a betta to put in your 5 gallon tank.
Regular Member Lupin Posted November 7, 2010 Regular Member Share Posted November 7, 2010 (edited) A trio of fancy guppies, a betta, shrimps, a trio of sparkling gouramis or even a bunch of assassin snails. The assassins are boring though so I guess you'll prefer shrimps more. Doesn't matter how many assassins you have to keep there. The likelier problem is getting them adequate supply of pond snails to eat on. Edited November 7, 2010 by Lupin
Regular Member us4298 Posted November 8, 2010 Author Regular Member Share Posted November 8, 2010 I was actually reffering to the Fancy Tail guppies as an idea of using as cycling fish.
