Aquarium Heater Myth?

I just started a new tank and I was thinking of getting Troipical fish,which would require a heater, but my friend told me that "having a heater in your tank really stinks up your house and makes it smell like a pet store." Is this true? Or is it just a Myth? If this is true, then will Carbon help in any way?

Never heard this before so might be something he just made up and not even a myth.

I have heaters in all my tanks and my tanks don't smell bad. When they do I use carbon but have not had to do that in years.

Maybe someone didn't have a good filter and didn't make the right amount of water changes

I agree with the above,maybe somebody was just lazy in the tank cleaning dept I have no smell from any of my tanks and they all have heaters

Fishkeeping should really be an odor less hobby. If something stinks it means you are doing something wrong.

Never heard of that one before! If you take care of your water properly you won't have any odors. And as Hidr mentioned, a temporary addition of carbon media would help polish the water and remove any odors and impurities.
