Regular Member Hidr Posted October 29, 2010 Regular Member Share Posted October 29, 2010 Starting to think he is not a fantail. I see a small hump and he is getting to round. What you think? Fantail or poor quality ryukin.
Regular Member number20121 Posted October 29, 2010 Regular Member Share Posted October 29, 2010 Or maybe a cross? Either way, this fish is a beauty! I just don't like the term "poor quality" although I understand what it means. But to us, their mommies and daddies, they all are the most precious fish in the world

Regular Member shellbell4ever Posted October 29, 2010 Regular Member Share Posted October 29, 2010 Hmmmm that does look a bit like the beginning of a hump? What ever she is, I just love those long flowing fins
Regular Member devilduck Posted October 29, 2010 Regular Member Share Posted October 29, 2010 I think he's a fantail, look at how curved the backs are on some telescopes and orandas! I think it's normal to have a curved back, but on ryukins it gets packed out so much more. To my mind his head isn't pointy enough to be a ryukin either, but it's hard to say! Aren't I helpful

Aren't I helpful Most of the orandas have been crossed with ryukins. A lot of modern orandas are crossed with ryukins. Micah can be considered low quality ryukin or simply fantail. Anything that does not fit well by standards almost always get labeled as fantails.
Regular Member blackteles Posted October 29, 2010 Regular Member Share Posted October 29, 2010 I'm thinking a cross between the two? With all the mass inbreeding I guess anything's possible... Any which way he's a beauty!

Supporter Helen Posted October 30, 2010 Supporter Share Posted October 30, 2010 i think fantail.. the nose is not pointy like my ryukin or the others i see.. but i do see what you mean about the hump.. perhaps he's just going through a growth spurt and the rest of his body will catch up.. love the tail and the colourings.
