Regular Member Guldklumpen Posted October 26, 2010 Regular Member Share Posted October 26, 2010 Hi All. I am currently, as a precaution, treating my goldfish for flukes with Prazipro. This is going fine, no rubbing or flashing so far, so i guess they were fine. Anyway, i was wondering where flukes come from? Should i be worried every time i buy new plants? How should i proceed regarding new plants in the tank? Guldklumpen
Regular Member Captain Findus Goldfish Posted October 26, 2010 Regular Member Share Posted October 26, 2010 Hi Jesper. I think Flukes come mostly from new fish. I think they need Hosts mostly. But plants can bring LOTS of bacteria, parasites etc etc. Do you not sanitize new plants when you buy them? I think that is very important. Try disinfecting them using 1part bleach to 19parts water for 1-2minute. Or 1part bleach to 9parts water for 20-30seconds Then rinse them well and soak them a bit in 3x dechlorinated water hope this helps
Regular Member Sakura Posted October 26, 2010 Regular Member Share Posted October 26, 2010 Flukes are almost impossible to completely exterminate. They are persistent little buggers. So treating for flukes is more about control of the flukes population that it is about getting rid of them completely. Which means it's a good idea to do a dose or two of prazi at least once a year, maybe every six months, even if you didn't bring in any new plants or fish.

I have never sanitized my plants, just washed them in clean water before use.
Regular Member number20121 Posted October 27, 2010 Regular Member Share Posted October 27, 2010 The plants should survive the treatment. Just make sure you rinse them really well!
