Regular Member macbeth110 Posted October 15, 2010 Regular Member Share Posted October 15, 2010 Today my cat broke my Betta fish tank. He was trying to get the lid off (to drink from it, I guess) and he pushed it off the book shelf I had it on. The fish is fine, but I currently have him in a bowl. Like, a soup bowl. So, I obviously need to move him soon, but I don't have the money to but a new tank for him (I'm currently out of work). Can I put him in the tank with my goldfish or would that be a bad idea?
Regular Member ashlee18 Posted October 15, 2010 Regular Member Share Posted October 15, 2010 It would be a bad idea. The bowl would be better than putting him with the goldfish.
Regular Member macbeth110 Posted October 15, 2010 Author Regular Member Share Posted October 15, 2010 Really? May I ask why? I'm not doubting, I'm just curious
Regular Member dogsbykat Posted October 15, 2010 Regular Member Share Posted October 15, 2010 I agree, not a good idea; different temp requirements and goldies waste production is hard for other fish to live with.
Regular Member Cynders Posted October 15, 2010 Regular Member Share Posted October 15, 2010 The goldfish will most likely also nip at him, or he will nip at them, causing stress in the animals leading up to death (most likely in the betta).
Regular Member Hidr Posted October 15, 2010 Regular Member Share Posted October 15, 2010 I would ask around at one of those small stores that sell pickles from a jar. They may be willing to just give you a jar. That would be a great temporary home for you betta. The store gave my husband 6 of them several years ago.
Regular Member macbeth110 Posted October 15, 2010 Author Regular Member Share Posted October 15, 2010 That's a really good idea, hidr. I didn't think of that. My roommate actually has a big jar of party mix, I'll use that.
Regular Member Hidr Posted October 15, 2010 Regular Member Share Posted October 15, 2010 Glad I could help. Just remember smaller space means more water changes. I would do 100% twice a week. (easier with more jars. just fill one up wait 24 hours move fish.)
Regular Member macbeth110 Posted October 15, 2010 Author Regular Member Share Posted October 15, 2010 Yeah, I typically do two full water changes a week. Thanks a lot for the advice
Regular Member blackteles Posted October 16, 2010 Regular Member Share Posted October 16, 2010 Great advice here, macbeth. Safest thing is to keep your goldfish with their own kind. Best of luck!
