Regular Member Captain Findus Goldfish Posted October 12, 2010 Regular Member Share Posted October 12, 2010 I think until a MOD stops by, a large water change with temp and pH matched water will help. Clean out any ornaments you have and/or gravel. I think part of the problem is your water change routine. Usually goldies need 50% water change WEEKLY. This is if your tank is totally cycled. So if you can do large water changes over the next few days that should help with the accumulation of debris and bad bacteria. Is there any chance you can get your water tested at a local petstore?
Supporter Helen Posted October 12, 2010 Supporter Share Posted October 12, 2010 hi gombla, welcome to koko's.. nice to meet you. i hope your fish gets better soon.. whilst you wait for either water testing or a mod to come along and help, i agree with captain findsus goldfish that you should do a water change. minimum of 50%. because it's sick, you will need to do these changes daily. also, seeing as your sick fish has something that may pop and infect the water in your main tank, i recommend you hospitalize it. do you have a qt tank to separate it? you can use a plastic tub minimum of 10 gallons with a filter and bubbler. if your filter is cycled, you can take some filter media from that and add it to the hospital filter to bring on a near enough instant cycle. two reasons why you will need to separate it. one as i've already explained, due to the nature of the problem possibly oozing infected fluids into the main tank where your other fish is, and second because you will most likely need to medicate., since your other fish is well, there is no need for it to receive medications. good luck, we're here to help you, so if you can get back to us with the water parameters and the rest of the questions above, that will be a huge step forward for us to gain a better insight to the problem your fish is experiencing. best of luck to you and your fish.. i hope it's nothing too serious.
