Regular Member number20121 Posted October 10, 2010 Regular Member Share Posted October 10, 2010 I told you guys before that my yellow apple snail likes the bubble wand, but as I was trying to take a video of the tropical tank, he did this. I am SO glad I had the camera pointed at him!! Also: He still got no name. I'd like to name him Gary, because he reminds me of Spongebob's pet. Thing is though that my late apple snail was also called Gary. The name fits the new one so much better though... what do you think? I don't see him as replacement for Gary, but the name is so perfect!

Regular Member number20121 Posted October 10, 2010 Author Regular Member Share Posted October 10, 2010 (edited) LOL too funny, Fang. Probably never knew what him him.... Yep! And I love the way the platies check him out while he is floating. They're all LOLWUT? Or maybe he knows exactly what he is doing and that is the reason why he constantly is in a different corner of the tank within minutes. He was a bird in his former life and knows about currents Edited October 10, 2010 by Oerba Yun Fang
Regular Member blackteles Posted October 10, 2010 Regular Member Share Posted October 10, 2010 sorry Fang, I meant to type what hit him, not him him lol...I type, I fail.
Regular Member number20121 Posted October 10, 2010 Author Regular Member Share Posted October 10, 2010 Funny, I READ it as hit. I'm so tempted to re-upload it with dramatic music and the sound of a space shuttle taking off.
Regular Member Kateana Posted October 11, 2010 Regular Member Share Posted October 11, 2010 That is too cute! He's invented a new sport-bubble surfing I love how for a second all the Platies were like "Food!? Is that food?!"

Regular Member Guldklumpen Posted October 12, 2010 Regular Member Share Posted October 12, 2010 (edited) Haha, great video Thx for sharing it. Does goldfish leave the snail alone? I would like one, but fear that it would get picked on by the goldfish ....or it would escape from the tank? (my lid is not fully closed due to hoses) Guldklumpen / Jesper Edited October 12, 2010 by Guldklumpen

The fish were only curious the first few days and poked at them. Other than that they usually leave them alone. The snails also never tried to escape evev though the lid has several large openings. You just have to make sure that the water isn't filled too high, so the snails have room to come up and breathe without being forced to leave the tank. I make sure that there is about two inches room above the water line (incuding rim).
Regular Member johann_pond Posted October 12, 2010 Regular Member Share Posted October 12, 2010 I have two with my goldies. As long as they are big enough my goldies don't bother them.
Regular Member number20121 Posted October 12, 2010 Author Regular Member Share Posted October 12, 2010 Right, I wouldn't exactly pick the smallest snail in the LFS. I chose mine as they were ones of the larger ones. With enough food and an cuttlefish bone to get their calcium for the shell, they will grow fast. I go the black snail for only three months now and she grew a full inch shell-length.

Regular Member number20121 Posted October 15, 2010 Author Regular Member Share Posted October 15, 2010 Funny thing is I saw him do that again a couple days ago, and yesterday I caught him landing. I wonder if he is doing that intentionally now, maybe he likes doing that.

Maybe some snails like it too
Regular Member number20121 Posted October 15, 2010 Author Regular Member Share Posted October 15, 2010 Yeah, he always likes to crawl on the bubble wand or through the bubbles. Now getting a lift from them probably is so exciting for him Btw, I decided on SPEEDY for him. Because he literally races around in that tank.

Regular Member number20121 Posted October 15, 2010 Author Regular Member Share Posted October 15, 2010 Ewww poor snail. I'm so glad my fish more or less ignore the snails. Occasionally they poke at them. I sure will have to watch though when I put them back into the goldfish tank when their treatment is done, in case they have to get used to the snails again
