Regular Member Wendy Posted October 9, 2010 Regular Member Share Posted October 9, 2010 When my new fish is done with 3% salt can she go straight into a no salt tank? Does 3% aq salt cause constipation? I haven't seen a normal poop since I got her 3 weeks ago.
Regular Member Sakura Posted October 9, 2010 Regular Member Share Posted October 9, 2010 Nope, you will have to decrease in steps from .3% down to .2%, then .1%, and then 0. Otherwise it would be a bit of a shock to her system. I have never noticed aquarium salt causing constipation. It might be a good idea to try fasting her for a couple days and then feeding peas for one day. However, not noticing any poos is normally a good thing, because it means the poos are normal. You will hardly ever notice normal poos because they are fairly short and don't trail for a long time, and then they break off and are swept away by the filtration really quickly.
Regular Member Captain Findus Goldfish Posted October 9, 2010 Regular Member Share Posted October 9, 2010 Yup exactly as Sakura says, do it slowly, just like when you increase. Try feeding peas and see how long it takes for the 'alien green' poop to show up
