Regular Member blackteles Posted September 18, 2010 Regular Member Share Posted September 18, 2010 After I shut down all power to my tank during my weekly water change last weekend, I did my normal cleaning routine and fired everything back up again. One of my AquaClear 70's wouldn't restart...first time any of AC's have done that. Rather than freak out I removed the motor assembly, pulled and cleaned the impeller, reinserted it and reattached the unit to the filter. After another restart it fired right back up and no issues noted. Just wondering if those of you with AC's have had this happen to you?
Regular Member kukana d Posted September 18, 2010 Regular Member Share Posted September 18, 2010 That kind of happens to me ALL THE TIME w/ my Emperor 400s. I have to take the impeller out and soak it in vinegar-it's a real drag
Regular Member jeffteo Posted September 18, 2010 Regular Member Share Posted September 18, 2010 This is normal for mechanical parts. When it is running it is properly lubricated(in this case water and grim is the lubricant) but once you turn it off and the lubricant settle down or thicken due to no movement, the parts will get stuck. Take an old car w/o proper maintenance as the same example and you will get what I meant.
