My Trapdoor snails are getting pretty covered with algae!! I thought I'd just remove it with a "snail only" toothbrush........well, THAT didn't work. Do I need to get it off, or is okay to just let them GO GREEN?

Algae covered snails are harmless, in most cases. It is normal for growth on their shells if algae is present in your tank, and unless it becomes too overgrown and starts to hinder their movement, I wouldn't be too concerned. :) I tried very hard to take the green off of my pretty yellow snail shells. My attempt didn't work too well either, and you really don't want to scrub too hard or it could wear down the shell.
