Regular Member jennybugs Posted February 12, 2009 Regular Member Share Posted February 12, 2009 Well, for the last day or so I have noticed in the goldie tank that things have been getting a little heated! I noticed my blue/green apple snail hitching a lift on the back of the pearl apple snail and didn't think anything of it as it's not unusual to see that happen Anyhoo, when I looked at the tank tonight, there is the blue snail doing exactly the same thing again. Aw how lazy, I thought, but on closer inspection, it would appear these snails are a bit 'closer' than I first realised... What's strange about that? Well look closer! No...closer! I wonder if I'll have the trail of little slimers running round the tank soon? To make things worse I have just noticed my pink striped apple snail has latched onto them both too! A menage a trios no less! Time to read up some info methinks

Regular Member jennybugs Posted February 13, 2009 Author Regular Member Share Posted February 13, 2009 They aren't are they? The pink one joined in as well for a menage-a-trois but at least they had the decency to move to the back corner of the tank for that! Am I ok to leave any eggs to hatch naturally without fear of the goldies eating the baby snails, or would I be best to move any eggs to a small nano I have? The nano has baby ramshorns and pond snails in it so I know it's a good environment for babies to grow
Regular Member johann_pond Posted February 13, 2009 Regular Member Share Posted February 13, 2009 My guess would be to move them, as long as you want the babies to live. Are you willing to share the new borns?
Regular Member mardaokansi Posted February 13, 2009 Regular Member Share Posted February 13, 2009 I 2nd moving the eggs b/c your goldies will enjoy them as a nice snack.
Regular Member jennybugs Posted March 6, 2009 Author Regular Member Share Posted March 6, 2009 Well after all the frenetic sexual activity going on in the tank I am still waiting for eggies I'm a bit miffed and just hoping they'll get down to it again Mind you, I have no idea what time scale these things occur on and may well be impatient!
Regular Member AubreeMarie Posted March 6, 2009 Regular Member Share Posted March 6, 2009 I hope your patience can last a couple months, because that's about as long as lady love bug there can hold on to the males sperm before actually putting it to good use. Or maybe she's baby crazy and will give her self some eggs sooner than later,, only one who knows is her lol! I had ordered a trap door once online. I had her for two days, then on the second night, there was a mysterious new itty bitty snail (traps are live bearers) and she had another baby each evening for three more nights. Then the other day I look in,,,, and I guess she decided to have a fifth! Almost a whole month and a half later!!!
Regular Member lynda441 Posted March 7, 2009 Regular Member Share Posted March 7, 2009 Now, I don't know about snails specifically, but there's also the issue that just because they "do it," doesn't mean one or the other is ready. lol! But, knowing what I DO know about snails, they're born ready! lol! And, just this tidbit of trivia: did you know that porpoise/dolphins are the only other animal besides humans that have sexual relations just for the fun of it?! Aaaaannnddd..... I think YOU'RE the pervert for taking porno pictures while they're doing it!
