This August I went to visit my grandparents at their cabin in the Blue Ridge Mountains and took some pictures of the pond and I stole some of their old ones. I thought you guys might enjoy lookiong at pictures of their pond. The pond is about 1500 gallons with a small 500 gallon pool up top and a 1000 gallon pool at the bottom connected by a little creek and a waterfall. They have 2 koi and 20 or so shubunkins and commons.

Me and the pond in August.

In Malaysia, we cant afford to have that such a big pond.... Unless we are very rich guy!....

Curious about 1 thing, where are the fishes during winter? I saw the pond covered with ice or the water in the pond freeze??..

Sorry about this silly question, we dont have winter in Malaysia.. :(

They actually leave their fish in the pond over winter. They place logs in the pond so as it cannot completely freeze over, but if your pond is deep enough (and you don't live in the arctic  ) then the pond supposedly doesn't freeze all the way through. Only the top layer freezes leaving the fish in the bottom with several feet of water. I believe in the entire time they've had their pond they've only lost one fish over the winter.

Thanks you guys. It really is a beautiful pond. Trust me, I'm jealous too. I only get to see it maybe once a year over the summer, usually I don't get there every year. I told them that everybody thought they had a great pond and that made them happy.

No. My grandparents aren't has much into the fish as they are into the landscaping part of the pond. That's not to say they mistreat them particularly or that they don't like them but mostly only pics of the landscape.

that really is beautiful. i want one! the problem, though, is that here in kansas we have herons all over the place. you couldn't keep fish in a pond like that if your life depended on it. really sad that i can't have one. ;)
