Regular Member Chrissy_Bee Posted October 25, 2008 Regular Member Share Posted October 25, 2008 Great advice. It's amazing how fast heaters get hot when they are out of the water.

Regular Member misty_blue16137 Posted October 26, 2008 Regular Member Share Posted October 26, 2008 A very good reminder. It's something that is very easy to forget.
Regular Member arabpaso Posted October 26, 2008 Regular Member Share Posted October 26, 2008 There are heaters that turn off automatically when they're out of water--don't remember the brand but I think they call it the "Stealth" heater or something like that. I've had one for quite awhile and never had any problem with it.

Regular Member Lady_Dodecagon Posted December 26, 2008 Regular Member Share Posted December 26, 2008 I always unplug everything when I clean my tanks. Each tank has its own surge protector and I unplug it to kill the power to everything. I don't want to get shocked or lose any equipment. As Kathy said, it is something that is very easy to forget.
Regular Member br553 Posted December 26, 2008 Regular Member Share Posted December 26, 2008 I have one of those "stealth" heaters in my tropical tank for the very same reason. I had gotten tired of having to unplug my glass heater every time I needed to do a water change, plus the thermostat had gone out, leaving the heater always on. So when I went shopping for a replacement, I picked up one of the stealth heaters after being it being recommended by other members here on Koko's
