I Took Some Plants Out

Recommended Posts

Well I bit the bullet and removed some plants from the fry tank. They were big tall plants from the pentagon tank, so I had them lying down and literally crammed into the tank. It was hard for me to syphon up the old food in the fry tank with all those plants in the way.

I was afraid to move them, for fear that they would hit a fry and crush it or break it's back. How nerve wracking!! They were all twisted and narled together, ugh I had a hard time getting them out.

I counted 6 fry for sure, once I moved the plants. There may be a few more that I didn't see, who knows! I left two plants and a flowerpot turned on it's side for them. On a side note, I was as careful as possible, and all the fry look the same as they did before I took the plants out. If they had a deformed back, would I be able to tell yet?

I can see inside of them, and I think I see food. It looks yellowish!! Yesterday I could just see a little dot inside (swim bladder I am guessing) but today there is a line inside of them. They look bigger already!

do you mean the yellowish sac next to their mouth

i think i saw that

you shouldnt feed them until that disappears

i dont know :idont what happens to it

regarding the fry

you should cull the frys when they are at least a month old

the ones with the bent spine and the ones that struggle to

swim are a must cull

you might think its evil but its the best for them

i had one with a severe bent spine and i think it was

feeling pain everyday so i had to kill it:ill

its really the lesser of the two evils :cry1

Nope, I didn't mean the yolk sac, I didn't see that at all.

I mean I can see the crushed egg yolk that I fed them inside of them. Their bellies are yellowish if you look really closely.

I hope that I don't have to cull many, actually I hope that I don't have to cull any, I only have 6 or so!

Jude they have lots of room to swim, even when the plants were in there, they are the size of a speck. :D

The mother is Ryukin, and the father is either a) a Blue Oranda, B)A Black Moor, or C) a Lionhead. Your guess is as good as mine....I think it's the blue oranda....I hope....LOL

I have never had baby fish before. But I've bought fish that were as small as 3/4" maybe even only 1/2" and they grew to 3.5" in a year. So that was almost 3". That is crazy how fast little fish grow eh!

How big are yours now? How old are they?

The little fry I have, were hatched on the 20th, and they have already grown :rofl It's so cute.

before the kois ate them all

Neat!!

So how old will my fry be, when I should take them out of the 10 gal, and seperate them into different tanks so they have enough growing space?

Thank you for answering my endless questions! LOL.

I can't wait to hear what colour your fantail fry turn out to be either. How exciting.

So you have Koi? How many do you have? What colours? I love koi!

So did your fish spawn in the pond, and you had to remove the eggs from there? Do frogs and things eat the fish eggs?
