Regular Member justkeepswimming Posted August 18, 2008 Regular Member Share Posted August 18, 2008 lets justsay that one day i will be able to have that 42 gallon my friend has offered me... what kind of filter should i get? i've only ever had whisper filters and dont feel that they clean the tank as well as some other filters could. i've heard peoples reviews on aquaclear but was wondering what size would be appropriate for a 42 gallon...etc etc i dont know much about filters in general, so any advice would be appreciated thank you! 0 Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Regular Member kenny Posted August 18, 2008 Regular Member Share Posted August 18, 2008 i would recommend that you run 2 filters just to be on the safe side in case something happens to one. it is said that you want 10x the gph, so you would be needing 420. i say go for more if it is within budget. marineland products are great, good price for a powerful filter and biowheels. then there is hagen who makes aquaclear. great filter and easy change media. i will hopefully be orering 5 filters and other stuff in a week. i cant passup on this deal: http://www.drsfostersmith.com/product/prod...mp;pcatid=14448 but, thats for just hobs then there are canisters. if you go tthe money, go ehiem. but for a lil cheaper i would run rena or fluval. there is nothing wrong with mixing and matching as long as you get what is needed. good clean water. have fun researching, its part of the hobby and i find it interesting to know the output and sizes of filters so you know what your getting into. like space restrictions on the wall, go canister if it fits under or beside your stand. if you can bring it off the wall and want hobs, then you can get the dimensions on how far away and what size gaps in the top you need. but heres some stuff for ya. for hang on backs http://www.petsolutions.com/Info.aspx?id=401 for canisters http://www.petsolutions.com/Info.aspx?id=59 0 Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
