Guest pearlywhirly31
I'm switching my fantail from the 30 gal. that I have into the 5 gal. and my comets into the 30 gal. from the 5 gal.. The 30 gal. has a ph of about 7.6 - 7.4 and the 5 gal. has a ph of about 7.2 or so. Will switching the fantail from a higher ph to a lower ph affect him or is it not a big problem at all??? k thx!!!
Regular Member Acupunk Posted July 24, 2008 Regular Member Share Posted July 24, 2008 Why is the pH different between the two tanks? Generally you can switch a fish from a lower pH to a higher pH without causing a lot of stress. The opposite is not true, however. If you must switch the fish into a tank with a lower pH, then gradually acclimate the fish in a separate container by adding small amounts of the lower pH water over a few hours. BTW, 5 gallons is too small a tank for a fantail.
Guest pearlywhirly31
This is only a temporary arrangement. The fantail will eventually go back into the 30 gal. and the two comets into a friends pond with her other fish.
