Regular Member Desiree Posted July 23, 2008 Regular Member Share Posted July 23, 2008 I've used both foods and personally, my fish seemed to like Progold better. You can purchase Progold through www.goldfishconnection.com Progold Ingredients: Fish Meal, Krill Meal, Wheat Meal, Shrimp Meal, Alfalfa Meal, Fish Oil, Dried Brewers Yeast, Immunostimulant, Spirulina I think you can find Omega One at most LFS, although I remember I had a hard time locating it... and, I can't seem to find the ingredients online either. If you cannot order Progold, and cannot locate Omega One, I think Hikari Lionhead pellets are a quality food as well.
Regular Member daryl Posted July 23, 2008 Regular Member Share Posted July 23, 2008 I would choose the ProGold. It is designed by goldfish specialists. One of my biggest concerns with buying food from a pet/fish store is freshness. A food that has been processed, packaged, sent to distrubutors, reshipped to stores and finally stocked on shelves could be months and months old. Hakari Lionhead is another EXCELLENT food...... the Oranda food is floating, but the Lionhead sinks. A sinking food is a necessity. You can, however, put the Oranda food into gel food and get it to sink. The formulas are quite similar. I LOVE the Lionhead pellets for smaller fish (6 month - 9 month fry do great on this! a 2-3 inch fish). I just is for a second feeding on my of my month old fry at 1 inch size, too. But, because the Lionhead sinking pellets are VERY small, it is difficult to use them with adult fish. My adults simply do not want to bother with something so small. They will grudgingly root around for them, but generally let the majority go into the filter. Progold pellets are a good size for average adult fish - 4-7 inches big or so. ProGold also makes a bigger pellet for the bigger adults (8-12 inches) ad they really like the big bites. GFC is VERY attentive and quick to ship. Rick does a good job of taking care of his customers - he has that personal touch that helps you get what you want/need in a very timely fashion. My orders from GFC arrive 2-3 days after I order - and anytime I have special needs, he has addressed them in the same swift fashion. Hikari is available on line, mostly, around here. I can only find it in the tiny packages of "minis" at the petstores - and it is far to expensive for that!

Regular Member bettaqueen Posted August 7, 2008 Regular Member Share Posted August 7, 2008 you can also find Omega one at Pet*smart. That is where I get it at. however do not make this your one and only food. It is high quaility and high in protein but does not have veggies in it. You should have them on a couple of foods perferably one with kelp, sprinula and other veggies . I recently had goldfish die because of a tumor and was told if you feed too much protien to a goldie it increases the chance for a tumor to grow an shorten their lifes. Omege One also makes little sinkalble tablet called Omega Veggie Rounds that contain kelp and sprirunila. I give my new goldie both of these. I als bought some some Sally Brands Sanfrancisco brand Emerald Entry. that one has romaine lettuce, red lettuce , another type of lettuce , kelp , sprinula and shrimp in it. The progold sounds like it has it too so it sounds good
