Hello,

I have had my Red Cap Oranda for a couple years.

All of a sudden, I have noticed that the red in the cap

is gone! I can't say that I noticed it shrinking over time

even. What would cause this?

Thanks,

Spinnerchick

It is not uncommon for red cap orandas to lose the red in their cap as they age. If the cap is white or yellow they are referred to as lemonhead orandas. Many around here prize lemonhead orandas as their favorite type of fish. As long as the fish otherwise appears to be healthy, I would not worry about it.

Thanks Kristen.

The what was once red cap is not exactly yellow, not exactly white either. Something in the middle.

But yeah... the fish seems extremely healthy, so I will not worry.

Whew!

Can you get us a pic? Pictures are always very helpful in figuring these sorts of things out. And yes, lemonhead orandas are THE BEST.

you crack me up joy! they are the third best btw, right behind calicos, and next bright contrast red and whites. as i type this i keep looking over my shoulder to see if ape is awake and ready to slap me. lol im in the clear....

but yeah, post pics. if you dont they start to get violent around here. waving signs and sticks. it gets ugly
