Guppies And Air Stone

This is a pretty simple question (hopefully! ). My 10 gallon tank has 5 male guppies in it. I have an approx. 4 inch long air stone, and a small air pump to go with it. My question is whether or not I should have it in the aquarium? Is it really necessary? Or is it always better to have more surface agitation?

Oooh can I jump in on your topic and ask the same thing for a 5 gallon tank with just one platy? Or with a 2.5 gallon tank with a betta? Right now they both have a small airstone but it almost seems like it bugs the fish. lol Sorry petperson, it was related so it seemed silly to start a new topic lol

No prob! ;)

To answer your questions-- I can't say for your 5 gallon with the platy, but I would say the betta doesn't need an air stone. I think they prefer calm water, and (males) don't like their bubble nest to be disturbed.

Cool! Because I actually forgot I did take the betta ones out. I only had them in for a few weeks and the fish really just seemed irratated by it. And yep, both my bettas are male. (They do have seperate tanks) Thanks for not minding me barging in : )
