Regular Member Wizz Posted June 28, 2008 Regular Member Share Posted June 28, 2008 OK i lost my lion head recently a sad day, i thought i'd go have a look round the lfs and, guess what? yeah i came home with a new fish lol i know he's a ryukin but when they say strong swimmers, they arent kidding lol, he just buzzies around all over the place he looks so happy he also has a thing for the current coming out of the filter, as soon as he feels the smallest of curret he swims into it and then gets swept away. other than that his behavour is fine and he's getting on well with my black moore. so the questions what colour is he? and is he of a good quailty stock (i'm not really that consered about it, i just heard high hump means good and it looks high to me) and is there any more tips on genral care i need to know about? oh and there's pics lol side http://i230.photobucket.com/albums/ee183/m...pg?t=1214667158 frontish http://i230.photobucket.com/albums/ee183/m...pg?t=1214668261 front (sorry about the dry drips on the front of the tank) http://i230.photobucket.com/albums/ee183/m...pg?t=1214668327 with my black moore http://i230.photobucket.com/albums/ee183/m...pg?t=1214668479 the tank http://i230.photobucket.com/albums/ee183/m...pg?t=1214668521
Regular Member daryl Posted June 28, 2008 Regular Member Share Posted June 28, 2008 That looks to be a pretty little Ryukin type fry.... still showing his fry green type colors.... When he decolors, I would guess that you will have a red topped, white bottomed red&white Ryukin. I am a bit suprised that he has not gotten his colors yet, if that is a golfball that he is next to...... But some strains take quite a while. Cutie pie. I love Ryukins!

Regular Member daryl Posted June 28, 2008 Regular Member Share Posted June 28, 2008 In that case he is right on schedule for a nice, healthy size for his age. That is wonderful. I think I see that his belly is showing lighter than the rest. That is usually an indicator that he will be red and white ......
Regular Member Wizz Posted June 28, 2008 Author Regular Member Share Posted June 28, 2008 really wow! i look forward to keeping track of his change. i've noticed he's got a thing for grazing on the brown alge, espacally the hairier stuff stuck to the plants, i asume this is ok? but i'd thought i'd check that it is, my other fish have tended to stay away from it?
Regular Member daryl Posted June 28, 2008 Regular Member Share Posted June 28, 2008 I would not worry. If he finds it yummy, I am sure it is fine. My fry strip the tank squeeky clean - no green no brown no algae!
Regular Member Petperson04 Posted June 28, 2008 Regular Member Share Posted June 28, 2008 Both your fish are quite pretty! IMO, you chose a very nice fish! I rather like the fry color.... but it's probably bound to change.

Regular Member daryl Posted June 28, 2008 Regular Member Share Posted June 28, 2008 At 1.5 inches total length, he is about the size of the average Ryukin fry I have at 6 months of age (give or take). The reds of mine have not taken on any color yet, either. The only ones showing color are the blacks, blues and calicos. The rest are still green.....

Regular Member spider man Posted June 29, 2008 Regular Member Share Posted June 29, 2008 nice little ryukin with a lot of potential. I think that I see the beginings of the hump that we want to see especially in those short fin version ryukins. I like the fact that your tank is understocked. Ryukins can grow very large. Sorry about the loss of your lionhead I know how special they can be
