Dropsy Help? Cold Sore?

Recommended Posts

hey guys,

I have a lemonhead lionhead that has dropsy for about 3 weeks now. for two weeks i've notice some red sore by its mouth, almost like cold sore. i've already QT this lionhead to

the 20gal tank and treated the water with salt the first week. there was no improvement, so i moved to Maracyn-Two powder. Treated the lionhead for another two weeks and i still dont see any improvements. what else can i use?? please help, sugguestions? filter with active carbon has been removed.

I dont know, i'm still treating it with Maracyn - Two, i also added Epson salt and do regularly water change. My fish pineconed yesterday but it's mroe active......not as sluggish...doesn't look so good though. I'm waiting for the medicated food to be delivered to me, it was shipped yesterday

Aquarium salt is NOT what you should be treating with! Epsom salts (1/4 TSP per 10 gals) will help draw out the excess fluid and make him more comfortable.

An anti-bacterial food such as MetroMed from goldfishconnection.com or Jungle Labs Anti-Bacterial food will be helpful.

IMPORTANT:

What are your EXACT water parameters?

-and-

Did you turn off the light and cover the tank with a towel when treating with Maracyn-2? This medication is sensitive to light and its active ingredients can be neutralized by light exposure.

We need to know as much as possible about the tank setup, water conditions, and fish's disease history so we can help you. Please fill out as many of the questions in the white box at the top of this page as possible!

They are right you need Epsom salt :D

Whats the temp in the tank, it should be up to 80F to help the guy. I hope you got some MetroMed hun thats really the only food to help him. The Maracyn 2 will help but you need to get the MetroMed so that the fish can be treated from the inside :D

Let us know :D
