Yes. Some fish never breed. I have a female that has been with me for years - and this is the first time in years and years that she has spawned. I have a friend whose prize winning fish waited 7 years before spawning.

You can help induce spawning behavior by properly "prepping" a fish 3-6 months before. I think the same can also occur.

A fish that is kept in an even temperatured tank, with consistant water in all parameters, consistant food types, consistant everything - light duration, etc. have a much greater chance of not breeding or spawning at all.
