Hi...

I have a question my neice bought 3 goldfish she has them in a regular fish bowl without a pump until her 10 gallon tank is ready. My question...the fish stay at the top of the bowl like they are trying to get air would this be normal? You think it's ok to stay in the bowl for a while? She had 4 but the little one died, and one of the big one was eating it....is this normal?

Thanks,

what kind of goldfish r they? Bowl have pretty much no oxygen in them at all which is suffocating ur fish. Fancy goldies need 10 gallons each or more is better and single tailed goldies need at least 20 gallons each, again the more the better, a bowl is basically a death trap for them :(

it probably isnt cycled either which means u probably r having ammonia spikes which is extremely deadly to fish, as long as they r in that bowl I suggest a 100% waterchange twice a day :)

:welcome welcome to kwg sugarcookie

what kind of goldfish does your neice have? singletails or fancies? singletails will need atleast 20 gal each and fancies need 10 gal each, the more space provided, the better! :D you will need to try to get those fish got of the bowl as fast as possible, they can stay in the 10 gal for awhile if they're small, but a 10 gal is still TOO small  the water will get toxic REALLY fast in a small bowl, the fish needs to be outta there ASAP. I think you should do a waterchange immediately  the grasping is prolly from lack of oxygen, humm, not sure about the fish picking at the dead fish though.

here are some links that might help you :D :D :D
