Pretty much yes. Lionhead is supposedly better suited to specifically developing colouration and wen growth in Lionheads and Ranchu and other wenned fish. Whilst Oranda Gold was developed for promoting growth in these and other fancy fish - but to be honest both brands can be used for all types of fancy goldfish - so it's personal preference really. One is floating, one is sinking. You'll notice there is also a very slight difference in the guaranteed nutritional analysis for min. protein and fat between both brands too. Here is some more info for you

Also, if you do a keyword search in this forum you'll find loads of threads discussing Hikari food and other peoples views on them.

Yes I have tried those - I still use them occasionally too. Some fishkeepers alternate between that and higher protein foods seasonally (like you might in a pond for example).

Lionhead and Oranda Gold are higher protein foods that promote growth. Higher protein equals more ammonia equals higher nitrAtes. Wheat germ pellets are lower protein and therefore are better digested and produce less waste, meaning better water quality.

You could give them a go also. It depends what you're trying to acheive diet-wsie. If you're hoping for lots of growth than higher protein foods are great. You'll still get growth with wheat germ pellets but maybe slower. In any case, yes - it is good to vary any goldfish diet and supplement it with extra veggies etc. :)
