Sonny 0 Posted April 26, 2007 The fish load in my outdoor horse trough is too high. I'm having trouble keeping the Nitrates down and the KH has been dropping along with the ph. It holds about 275 gallons and currently has 10 'fancy' goldfish in it. Some have grown to be pretty good size and I believe they are getting to be too much for the tank so I'm looking for options on how to reduce the load. One thing I could do is move a few into my pond which could easily accomodate them space-wise but it is currently home to some bigger Commons, Comets, Wakin and such. It's also got much stronger currents is pretty deep (about 4.5 feet). The two Frogheads are pretty robust and not quite as 'fancy' as some others so they might be good candidates? Anyone have experience keeping their 'fancy' fish with more traditional pond fish?
touchofsky 0 Posted April 26, 2007 My froghead is co-existing quite nicely with a shubunkin. The shub is about 5-6" in body length.
daryl 11 Posted April 26, 2007 My froghead, Kermit, would probably eat the comets and commons. He is a tough thug.
Sonny 0 Posted April 26, 2007 Thanks ya'll! That is enouraging and I'll probably give it a try. I just need some re-assurance that it will work out first. And I'm really worried that I've overloaded the horse trough. Not sure what to do if moving them doesn't address the water quality issues.
