Finally Got My Fish!

Recommended Posts

Some of you have been with me since the beginning of the oh-so-painful fishless cycle, so I thought I would share my new babies. :) They are both orandas - one blue/chocolate and one calico. No concrete names yet, so for now they are one fish two fish! :rofl

They seem to be very happy and healthy. Right away they were splashing in the bubbles and scavenging for food. Hopefully I will decide on names tomorrow.

Oh, and for fans of my cats, here's one for you. :D

Congrats! Cuuuuute fish!

I'd love to see some well lit pics of your whole tank, too. The design looks very interesting!

Are the glass marbles covering the entire bottom of the tank? I had that in my original (2 gallon!) tank and could not believe how much gunk got stuck under the marbles. When I upgraded my tank I got gravel because it was such a pain to be moving around the marbles to clean out the poop and food!

Thanks so much for the wonderful comments everyone! I've now had them (Spud -the calico- and Luna -the blue/chocolate-) for one week and they are too cool. The cats (well, CAT as the other is fairly um... not bright! and doesn't even realize what's going on in there) really enjoy watching them and so far are behaving themselves - he just stands up there to watch, but doesn't try to touch them or get on top of the tank.

SpaceCakeGirl - yes, the marbles are all over the bottom. I left enough open spaces so that I can gravel vac easier (I can move the marbles and vac under them). Luna loves to play soccer :) So far I am not having any trouble with gunk under them, but time will tell. Half the marbles are big ones, about quarter sized, and half are standard size. I really like the look of them. I will try to get a good picture to show you.

It's extremely difficult to take pictures when the fish are up in your face and wagging all over - all of my photos end up being of blurry little 'O' faces. :D

Thanks! I ordered it online and crossed my fingers for a nice piece... It worked! There's little cubbies in it that they like to dive in and out of. I thought I might sometime want a pleco and I like the look of the driftwood. I don't think I'll get a pleco... much rather have one more goldfish if I'm gonna add something else! For now it's just the two little guys in the 30 gallon and they love the space. If I get another goldfish, I will probably take out the driftwood so they have as much room as possible. And replace my internal filter for another HOB.

I'm really enjoying the plants. I've never been able to keep them alive, and I can't have house plants because my cats eat them. So the aquarium plants are thriving and they are safe from kitties (so far the goldies aren't eating them, though I wouldn't be upset if they did - just another excuse to go to the LFS!).

:) The only thing that I want to mention is the fact that Driftwood can/will lower your ph,so if it's low to begin with, you may want to watch that. :)
