Regular Member antoineg56g Posted March 3, 2007 Regular Member Share Posted March 3, 2007 Hi, I'm new to goldfish and i think one of my goldies has a problem. She seems to be struggling to keep to the lower parts of the aquarium. She spends most of the time at the surface and as soon as she swims downwards towards the gravel and stops, she simply floats to the surface. She is continually trying to swim downwards but it seems like the water is pushing her up. (same as what happens to a human being when he dives). My other goldie hasn't got these problems and spends most of her time near the gravel. what can the problem be? Thanks for your help!!!!!
Regular Member d_golem Posted March 3, 2007 Regular Member Share Posted March 3, 2007 Hi antoine, welcome to kokos! From the symptoms u've described, my initial reaction is that ur fish is suffering SBD or swim bladder disease. However, SBD can be caused by a variety of reasons. In order for us to pinpoint the problem, we need you to answer as many questions in the the white box above. For now, I suggest you to do a 50% waterchange, just for preliminary measures. Hope to hear from you again.

Guest Kiki Lola
I'm fairly new to fishkeeping myself, but it does sound like SBD to me. Is your fish swimming off-balance (on it's side, spinning or spiralling around the tank, as though it can't swim straight)? If so, it may well be SBD. But it's treatable!
