New Platy--he's Huge!

Here's a pic of my new mickey mouse platy, Ratter--

Behind him you can see my blue platy who is a lot smaller. I'm guessing Ratter's size to be over 2 inches long and an inch wide or more--hard to say exactly but he's much bigger than any other platy I've ever seen at the stores around here. He's fatter than my 4 in goldfish anyway! I wonder if this is normal? He looks and acts perfectly fine and has a good appetite.

he's probably just pond-raised. Majority of fancy livebearers sold in stores these days are raised indoors in tanks at fish farms, which is why they are actually much smaller than what their potential size should be.

It was only recently (just last week in fact) that I saw decent-sized tuxedo swordtails and black mollies again and remember thinking my initial reaction was "Whoa, those swordtails are gigantic!"

2" is a bit on the large side but not huge. He was probably raised in good conditions (Possibly pond?) Most of the available platies are either very young or were raised in crowded conditions.
