Bettas can be very very picky. Is it a new fish? If so, it may just need time to adjust to its surroundings, or maybe its used to different food from what your mom's feeding it. It sounds like your mom keeps the tank clean, but if some of the perams are off (pH, nitrates, etc) that could cuase him to stop eating too.

:) It would also be a good practice for your Mom to take out any left over food a fter a while as that can get params nasty in a real short time.Tell your Mom to buy one of those cheap turkey baster's at the Dollar store as they are great for sucking up uneaten food and poo. :)

Before I reccommend any thoughts,I too would like to know how long she's had the Betta, tank size that it's kept in etc. What foods has she tried?

yup the info Devs asked for will be helpful. Also take a flashlight and observe him well to make sure he is not showing signs of of illness such as , white spots, gold powder like dusting, cotton lookin substance clinging to him. Sometimes lack of appetitte can be the first sign a betta is ill.
