I've been using an old, cheap waterfall filter in my tropical tank which has been very unreliable and last night it finally died. So I went out today and bought a replacement, I got a large Wisper...and man, do they ever mean 'large'!!!!

This thing is a beast, I had to completely rearrange my tank to fit it in, and now it takes up a HUGE space! But, it does seem like a great filter. I disturbed a lot of debris when I moved the plants and rocks, and within a few minutes the water was crystal clear again thanks to my new ginormous filter :D It's also completely silent, as the name implies, which is great because the tank is outside my poor sister's bedroom and she'd been complaining about the noise lately.

I put in some media from the old filter and I'm hoping the water perams stabalize ok. I was wondering what everyone else who uses these filters think of them?

If it is huge and it took up alot of room, then yes, it must be the Whisper In Tank filter.

These are great. I love my Whisper filters. They keep the tank crystal clear, the water parameters great, and the feature SilentFilter Technology. I love them.

I make my own filter cartridges out of the low loft batting from Wal*Mart. It filters even more debris and keeps the water even more clear.

:) I have never used one. Is it a HOB or is it inside the tank? What is the GPH filtration? You have peaked my interest. How big is your tank and how much space did it actually take up.

Silly me for not mentioning it, yes it's an internal filter. It filters 150GPH, it's made for 10-20 gal tanks. I have it in my 20 gal and it's taking up a fairly large portion of the back wall. Even so, it's not that obstructive to the overall look of the tank, it's black and sort of blends in. Eventually I'm hoping to rearrange things a little better. I'll try and post some pics later :)

Yes, in my experience whisper is the best. I keep all my tanks in my bedroom and I have nothing but whisper filters right now. They are so quiet that I can hardly hear them at all. (and that's 3 filters!)

I have one of those (it's a tetra in-tank whisper by the way, not a whisper - that's a different brand) and it is super quiet. I put mine in the back corner and hid it behind some tall plants. I've been pretty impressed, considering how little I paid for it! The only thing I don't like about it is that I have to keep my water level a little lower so the lip of the waterfall isn't submerged.

Actually, the Whisper In-Tank for 10-20 gallons pumps 125 gph.

Whisper is the brand of this filter, which is manufactured by Tetra, See, they make all kinds of different filters, and they make Whisper heaters and air pumps.

If you don't like the black piece of plastic look in your tank, consider one of these:

You can add plants and stuff to them:

Whisper is the best, IMO, IME.

 for someone who started this topic I'm certainly getting my facts wrong, the filter I bought is the 20-30 gallon, not the 10-20. (thus it's huge size!)

Those decorative filters are pretty cool looking, great idea for sure. I think I may just wait until my sword plant grows large enough and move the filter behind it though, as it is I don't think it looks too bad.
