Guest DPFHPRES
I was wondering if there are more male ryukins than female ryukins? It seem like all I ever see are males
Regular Member Panzz Posted February 15, 2007 Regular Member Share Posted February 15, 2007 this could be true but I am not very sure either, anyway what makes you say so?
Regular Member daryl Posted February 15, 2007 Regular Member Share Posted February 15, 2007 It depends on where you are looking, I would guess. In the fancy imports, yes, you will find more males than females. The breeders tend to hold onto more females than males - and it is more difficult to squeeze a really nice female out of some of them. For serious, local breeders, you will ALSO see fewer females being sold. Same reason as above. I was shocked when the broadtail I had ordered turned out to be female!!!! She is the first I have managed to get, of reasonable breeding, in 2 years of looking.) For general fish that are bred for resale, you should see about 50/50 I would guess. I have never read anything about imbalance in sexes or color/sex links or temp/sex links..... I would very interested if anyone else has heard.
