Regular Member Fishmerised Posted December 10, 2006 Regular Member Share Posted December 10, 2006 That is exciting but also dangerous. Jumping right out of the water is not a habit that I would encourage, Uma could jump right out of the tank while you are not around.
Regular Member SusanH Posted December 10, 2006 Regular Member Share Posted December 10, 2006 I have an oscar who will sometimes do this. It is sort of amusing but as Fishmerised mentioned- dangerous. Though it's not like you can just turn this behavior on and off like a switch. when I open his tank lid I've found if I wait and let him calm down before putting flakes in he won't jump out. As cute as it is I would try to calm him down before feeding... too much can go wrong with a jumping fish!
Regular Member IloveSpaceboy Posted December 10, 2006 Regular Member Share Posted December 10, 2006 I had a betta who jumped out of his tank when I was on vacation for a week. I came back to a dead fish and smelly room. Not good.
Regular Member Jeana727 Posted December 10, 2006 Regular Member Share Posted December 10, 2006 Do you have a cover for the tank? If not, ya might want to add one....your little Olympic jumper might get into trouble as the others have said. Still, also like mentioned, I would not encourage the jumping....because even though my tanks are completely covered some dummie (ME!) occasionally leaves it open. I have even left it open a time or two overnight & I immediately take a head count & look around on the floor. So far no one has escaped.....whew!!
