Regular Member fondoo Posted December 3, 2006 Regular Member Share Posted December 3, 2006 one of my small ryukin tail edges are a bit red. does anyone know why? ph: 7.0 ammonia: .25 nitrite: 0 nitrate: 10 could it be from the slight rise of ammonia? Regular Member small_ranchu Posted December 3, 2006 Regular Member Share Posted December 3, 2006 mostly red fin is related to stress. I would do 50% water change to take ammonia down.
Regular Member GlassGoldfish Posted December 6, 2006 Regular Member Share Posted December 6, 2006 I don't think .25 ppm is enough amonia to cause red-ness. But I think s_r is totally right- something about the water quality is causing stress- time for big water changes!
Regular Member viscosity2004 Posted December 6, 2006 Regular Member Share Posted December 6, 2006 Ammonia toxicity can depend on pH and temperature. If your pH and/or temperature is high enough, an ammonia of .25 ppm can still hurt.

But, if we look at the info provided (ph 7), and make an inference that the tank temperature is somewhere between 70 and 80 D farenheit, then we know that amonia wont be toxic until 3-5 ppm.
