Regular Member Jon Posted December 1, 2006 Regular Member Share Posted December 1, 2006 Ok, so I have this 25-30 gallon plastic pot that i would like to make into a little out-door pond on our deck when it comes spring time. well, since I like top views of celestrials and i would only see the top of them, I was wondering if they were good pond fish? Regular Member sandy Posted December 1, 2006 Regular Member Share Posted December 1, 2006 Maybe in the summer and if the pond is heated against cooler nights.
Regular Member svendenhowser Posted December 1, 2006 Regular Member Share Posted December 1, 2006 I reckon they'd be ok in small tub/pond thing on the veranda as your describing, not a huge pond with other fish. But I'm thinking about our weather conditions that never get cold. If it actually ever got cold then maybe you'd need a heater like Sandy advised. Regular Member viscosity2004 Posted December 2, 2006 Regular Member Share Posted December 2, 2006 I think they'll be just fine if it's celestial-only so that no one has advantage over feeding. Also, watch out for other animals getting to the fish!
Regular Member Jon Posted December 2, 2006 Author Regular Member Share Posted December 2, 2006 thanks for the replies. it would be celestrial-only. i would also costom make a screen to go over it to avoid animals getting them... Another question i have is,are there any ways to keep it cool because we can get very hot days here, and i'd be afraid the water could get too warm
Regular Member Levi Posted December 2, 2006 Regular Member Share Posted December 2, 2006 This summer our pond got really hot.. 85-87 so we started to put 3 frozen water bottles in it.. It is a 35 gallon rubbermaid container inside of a barrel... It does just fine..Good luck Levi
Regular Member viscosity2004 Posted December 2, 2006 Regular Member Share Posted December 2, 2006 Try to locate or create a spot where it's shaded for the whole day. Hopefully this will help keep the temperature down AND keep algae away.
