Hi,

I bought a new Java Fern yesterday. I also bought a moon rock to attach it. I just tied them together w/ fishing line and this is how it looks.

I am planning to put it in my 29 g tank with 36 watts lighting. Is it enough for javafern?

I put them in PP for 15 mins yesterday. They are in QT tank now and treating w/ parasite clear. I will leave them in the QT for a week. Is it enough?

Hopefully my ranchus will not eat them.

Thanks.

Hi small ranchu. Your java fern looks in very good condition. I read that the javas have slightly less minimal light requirements than some plants so you should be okay with the lighting :) .

I have Java fern growing under about 65 watts of compact fluorescent light. They grow slow but steady. The rhizome (surface rood) grows, so I started mine by fastening them to a small bit of driftwood with monofilament fishing line. I just pushed the driftwood down into the gravel. The goldfish don't mess with the Java fern. Nice plant for a goldfish tank. The can tolerate lower light than many other plants.

Good luck.

Dennis
