Big Algae Problem

Algae is a sign that you have an excess of nutrients and/or light. How long per day are the lights on? What's the tank stocking and size?

A good way to suck up excess nutrients in the water column is to add a fast growing plant, like watersprite.

I personally wouldn't use a chemical algae killer if at all possible. It is always a good idea to avoid a poison/toxin of any sort, even if it's not supposed to hurt the goldfish. Alos, as I see you've experienced first hand, they're not very effective. Do you have your tank anywhere near a window or leave your lights on all the time?
