um I don't think thats true. Maybe it was a fish that looked like a pleco. I'm part chinese and been to a lot of expensive and cheap chinese resturants all over the world and I've never in my life of 22 years have seen a pleco in a chinese resturant. I've never seen or heard of a chinese dish consisting of plecos. I find it pretty offensive that you don't get your info straight before posting. That is rude of you to start a myth about the chinese heritage. I am deeply offended.

POOR FISH STUPID PEOPLE!

ill eat them will se how they like that!

This is exactly what I'm saying. Since El Pez said he saw a Pleco get eaten in a chinese resturant you called the people stupid. You weren't even there to see it, and already you made a judgment.

*shrugs* I don't see anything wrong with people eating things that other people may keep in their fish tanks. I know a lot of customers that come to the store I work at that keep catfish, bass, trout, and tilapia in their tanks and ponds. I love those fish as food and see nothing wrong with eating any of them if they're edible and easy to find. I can easily see why someone would take offense from el pez's statement. People from all over the world don't eat the same thing, and I'm sure many people will find many things distasteful, but I'm not going to start pointing out an entire group of people over it.

yes it is true that people eat these certain kinds of fish and that is a know fact. I myself has tasted a few. But what I think My Nemo is trying to point out is Chinese do not eat species of fish that is meant for a pet. Which El Pez and Black Oranda was implying

I think it depends more on the people then it does on Chinese Heritage.

For example, when I was in grade school I used to go fishing and catch bass in the lake behind my house. I heard that the people in the Chinese resturant down the street from where I lived like to eat them. So, I used to bring them to them. One time, I went back in the kitchen to meet a friend who worked there, and I found that they had cut off the heads and tails of the bass, and were frying them with vegetables and eating them. They were picking the white meat out with chopsticks.

Later on I knew a girl whose family owned a Chinese resturant and when I told her this she thought it was disguisting.

So it proves the falacy of stereotyping, it has nothing to do with being Chinese.

I'll bet it wasn't a pleco in the tank that El Pez saw, but some other kind of catfish. I don't know, are plecos used as a food source anywhere? I've never heard of it, although I've heard of Cichlids being a food source in some places.

Well, like i have a goat, and a horse... i see those animals get chopped up, i might not like it - but it has to cycle and keep the balance of species and for food. :(
