Mav 0 Posted July 27, 2006 Are goldfish bodies always symmetrical? Can one side be heavier/bigger than the other side, normally, or is that an indicator that something is wrong? I know most creatures are symmetrical, but I also know that if you look at, say, tennis players, the dominant arm often has more muscle developement, etc., because of training, competing, etc. So do goldfish get like that -- one side of the tail/body area being more developed, or not really? --Mav
fishywomble 0 Posted July 27, 2006 If I noticed any part of the goldfish's bodies being bigger than the other, I'd suspect something was wrong. 2 of our 3 first fish died from internal bacterial infections, and they both swelled up only on one side (until the last day). I don't think all fish have symmetrical fins etc. though... I'd be more worried about a marked difference in body size from one side to the other. fw
Trinket 108 Posted July 27, 2006 Fish with a broken or damaged spine may look non-symmetrical, a female fish full of eggs will be swollen on one side..a bacterial infection can cause swelling...Normally fish are symmetrical
